Artist's Description
A Giant Jawfish incubating eggs in his enormous mouth in the Sea of Cortez. With a large head and a mouth that extends well past the huge eyes the Giant Jawfish grows to about 20 inches in length. Jawfish excavate elaborate burrows in sandy or rubble substrate on the sea floor using their powerful jaws, and are most often seen with just their face emerging from the burrow. Photographed in the Midriff Islands of Mexico.
