Description
The Triton's Trumpet is an enormous sea snail, they grow to two feet in length. Tritons are highly valued for their decorative quality. Unfortunately collectors have severely impacted their population. Tritons are one of the few predators of the Crown of Thorns Starfish, which feed on and devastate coral reefs in the Pacific Ocean. This Triton is busy digesting a Cushion Star. Photographed off the Big Island of Hawaii.

Beautiful capture, Aaron. How sad that the "collectors" of anything living can't act in responsible ways. What ARE they thinking? Oops, guess it's the ones that don't think that are so destructive. We used to see wonderful things when we were snorkeling years ago. Never got to deep sea diving though. V/F
