Description
The Spanish Dancer is Hawaii's largest Nudibranch, it is also the only swimming nudibranch. It swims in undulating fashion that resembles a dance. The Spanish Dancer is a nocturnal species that shelters under rocks and in reef crevices by day, and lives in water from 3 to 180 feet deep. The Spanish Dancer egg mass is quite large and obvious, consisting of red to pink coils attached to coral or exposed rock. Defensive chemicals are contained in the mass to protect against predators. Photographed in Hawaii.
