Description
Among Mantas the females are much larger than the males and while little is known about Manta courtship, it seems the rules of pursuit may be reversed in their population. Mantas are now being seen in numbers at an open ocean pinnacle called Roca Partida, a location where were not normally encountered until now.The Giant Pacific Manta can grow to 22 feet in width, and weigh 3000 pounds. Yet despite their enormity, Mantas are relatively harmless to Humans, and actually approach an interact with divers in Mexican waters hundreds of nautical miles from civilization. Mantas are plankton feeders and have no stinging barb on the tail. Photographed in the Revillagigedos Archipelago of Mexico.
