Stingrays are so named for the long serrated poisonous spine in the tail used for defense. The Sting is not deadly to humans, however it is intensely painful. Photographed in Turks and Caicos Islands.
I have been blessed with many opportunities. Some so-called "wildlife" photographers, make their reputations selling images of captive, and baited animals and birds posed by professional handlers, and photographed at game farms, and various pre-selected scenic locations. Really cool shot. Love it - though Steve Irwin might disagree about the not deadly to humans statement. Though not usually deadly to humans, a shot of venom to the heart can prove to be the exception.
Aaron Whittemore replied:
Thanks very much, Joni. With all respect to Mr. Irwin, most of us aren't as hands on as he was, if you know what I mean.
