Description
I found this 30 mm naval shell on the sea bottom, while diving off Orange Beach, on the Island of Peleliu, in the Republic of Palau. These high explosive incendiary munitions were fired by US Naval Batteries to soften Japanese positions, and likely provide cover fire for the US Marines as they stormed the beach in what would become one of the fiercest, and bloodiest battles of World War 2

Thanks for your service, George. Army vet, myself. Thank you for the great comments, it was a thrill and a privilege to observe and experience some of the same sights, albeit under completely different circumstances, as our heroic Fathers.
